About Optima Research
Optima Dermatology is leading groundbreaking research and advancements in the dermatological field. For patients struggling with difficult, complex, and many times chronic conditions, our clinical trials centers give patients the opportunity to participate in cutting edge research that can help them overcome and improve their conditions.
Optima Research is comprised of two clinical trials practices with more in development: Indiana Clinical Trials Center (ICTC) and Optima Research in Boardman, Ohio.
What Are Clinical Trials and Why Are They Important?
Clinical trials are part of clinical research and at the heart of all medical advances. Clinical trials look at new ways to prevent, detect, or treat disease. Clinical trials can study:
- New drugs or new combinations of drugs
- New medical devices
- New ways to use existing treatments
- New ways to improve the quality of life for people with acute or chronic illnesses
The goal of clinical trials is to determine if these treatments or devices are safe and effective.
Benefits to Participating in Clinical Trials
People take part in clinical trials for many reasons. Well-designed and well-executed clinical trials provide the best approach for you to:
- Gain access to new research treatments before they are widely available, at no cost.
- Receive regular and careful medical attention from a research team that includes doctors and other health professionals.
- Help others by contributing to knowledge about new treatments or procedures.
- Receive compensation for time and travel.
Clinical Trials Impact
Groundbreaking scientific advances in the past and present are possible only because of participation of volunteers, both healthy and those with an illness, in clinical research.
Only through clinical research can we gain insights and answers about the safety and effectiveness of new treatments and procedures. Clinical research requires complex and rigorous testing in collaboration with communities that are affected by the disease. As research opens new doors to finding ways to diagnose, prevent, treat, or cure disease and disability, clinical trial participation is essential to help us find the answers.
