Injectable Neuromodulators – What You Need to Know
How Can Neuromodulators Help Me?
Are you concerned with fine lines and wrinkles? Are you looking for a treatment that is minimally invasive with no down time? Chances are you’ve heard about BOTOX® before – but how familiar are you with Dysport®? Both BOTOX® and Dysport® are types of neurotoxin injections that are safe and effective for improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
BOTOX® and Dysport® have the same mechanism that provides consistent and reliable results. The neurotoxin injections block signals from the nerves to the muscles, which relaxes the muscles and reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
Each treatment is relatively quick, non-invasive, and there is generally no downtime associated with either product. Our medical aesthetics providers will work with you to determine the best neurotoxin based on your needs and preferences.
BOTOX® vs. Dysport®
BOTOX® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) is the most well-known neurotoxin treatment option available. BOTOX® was the first injectable neuromodulator on the market, and the first and only neurotoxin that is FDA-approved to temporarily improve the appearance of:
- Frown lines between the eyebrows
- Crow's feet
- Forehead lines
Dysport®, another type of neurotoxin injection, is very similar to BOTOX®. While every patient is different, Dysport® tends to “kick in” quicker than BOTOX® allowing patients to see an effect in less time. Dysport® is FDA approved to treat the following:
- Frown lines between the eyebrows
What Can You Expect from a Neurotoxin Injection Treatment?
The longevity for both BOTOX® and Dysport®, the area being treated, and the dose is patient dependent. The treatment itself is relatively quick and usually takes less than 30 minutes, with no downtime. You can resume your normal activities following your treatment.
