We are please to be able to offer virtual dermatology appointments to our patients in Maine. Telehealth dermatology increases access to expert dermatology care for our patients residing in areas further from our Scarborough, ME practice in counties such as Oxford, Franklin, Somerset, Piscataquis, Aroostook, Penobscot, Lincoln, Knox, Waldo, Kennebec, Hancock and Washington. During your virtual dermatology consultation, you will speak with one of our dermatology providers that is based out of our practice in Scarborough.

In addition to the above medical dermatology conditions, we are also able to provide virtual dermatology appointments for the following cosmetic concerns: hyperpigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, our online dermatology providers can make recommendations for skincare regiments.

For patients dealing with conditions that require an in person dermatology visit, our goal is to provide you with a convenient appointment time at our Scarborough, Maine practice. Depending on the condition and treatment plan after the initial in practice visit, you may be eligible for online dermatology care for follow up appointments.

How Dermatology Telehealth in Maine Works

We offer secure, virtual dermatology visits through our HIPAA compliant platform, Modernizing Medicine. To schedule a telehealth visit, please call our team: (207) 770-5621.

Once your online dermatology appointment is scheduled, you will receive an emailed link from ModMed to access the patient portal.

 

Accessing the Patient Portal

If you need to create a login for the patient portal, please use the emailed link or QR code provided by the practice team. Create a unique password within 72 hours of receiving the link.

Once you are registered on the patient portal, please add the following details prior to your telehealth visit:

  • Medical history
  • Medications
  • Allergies
  • Demographics
  • Pharmacy Information

 

Pre-Appointment Forms

You will receive consent forms 2-3 days before your online dermatology appointment. Please complete these form prior to your telehealth visit.

Telehealth on the APPatient App

  • Your telehealth visit will take place through the APPatient app. Download the APPatient app from the app store and log in using your patient portal login information.
  • 5-10 minutes before the appointment time, open the APPatient app and navigate to Appointments and then Video Visit.
  • A medical assistant will start your visit and then your online dermatology provider will join after intake.

 

Helpful Tips for Your Telehealth Visit

  • Be sure to be at home in a quiet, well-lit room during the appointment for best communication with the provider.
  • When the provider activates the call, a message stating “Your video visit is ready” will appear in the Video Visit tab. Select “Join Video Visit” to enter the appointment call.
  • When your visit has concluded, select the red “Hang Up” button.
  • You may exit the APPatient app at this time.

 

Cost of Online Dermatology Care

Like an in-person dermatology appointment, we accept most major insurance plans for virtual dermatology appointments, as well as HSA/FSA plans. Please contact your insurance company to determine eligibility for your specific plan and any co-pay or financial obligation. Your bill including co-pay will be sent to you after your telehealth visit. If you do not have insurance, we will review the cost of the visit during the scheduling call for your online dermatology appointment.

 

Virtual Dermatology Cancellation Policy

Late Arrivals - Patients arriving late for their telehealth appointments will be seen at the discretion and availability of the provider. If a provider determines that there is not enough time to provide the necessary care, they have the right to reschedule the appointment.

Missed Appointments - An appointment missed without at least 24-hour notice of cancellation will result in a charge of $50.00. Charges are the responsibility of the patient or legal guardian and cannot be billed to the insurance.
